It's true - first impressions matter. Try these tips to help sell your house:

1. View your house as a potential buyer will. Spruce up from the front in - driveway, garden, front door. Clean, paint or varnish, polish brass, etc.
   
   
2. Get round to those little maintenance jobs that you've being putting off - people notice!
   
   
3. Make sure your windows are clean inside and out.
   
   
4. Think about repainting dark rooms in a fresher, brighter colour.
   
   
5. Fresh smells are good - fresh flowers, pot pourri, freshly baked bread (if you can do it!). Stale cigarette smoke is a definite no!
   
   
6. De-clutter. You've lived with it but it makes the house look smaller. Get rid of anything unnecessary, put it in storage, throw it out, give it away - you will be amazed how much more spacious every room will look. 
   
   
7. Make sure the kitchen and bathroom shine and smell fresh.
